Our Vision
Brevard High School will continue its long tradition of excellence and will be viewed both as a model school in our state and as a central point of pride in our community. The school itself is a community of stakeholders that fully supports each student in his or her academic and personal growth. Each year, every student exceeds goals in all measurable outcomes. Staff members work collaboratively to support student learning goals and to provide high-quality classroom instruction that is relevant to learners at all levels. All students will graduate from high school and do so confident that they are well-prepared for the future. Furthermore, the community at large will rest assured that our graduates are leaders who will guide us into a promising future.
Our Mission
Believe in Education, Honor All People, and Succeed in Life!
Beliefs
At
Brevard High School, we believe all students can learn, and can be
contributing members of society. In addition, we believe student
learning is the chief priority of the school. Finally, we believe
that students learn best when they have appropriate opportunities for
success, and that a safe and physically comfortable environment
promotes student learning.
Given
these core beliefs, curriculum and instructional practices strive to
incorporate a variety of learning activities in order to accommodate
the individual intellectual needs of our students. For example,
student support services and the faculty work hand-in-hand to support
the physical, social, and emotional needs of our students by helping
to remove any barriers that would impede student learning. As a
consequence, the students attending Brevard High School are able to
develop strong, positive relationships with their teachers,
administrators, and school staff. Students also know that the faculty
and administration have high expectations for their academic
performance and will challenge them accordingly so that they attain
their full potential.
We
recognize that as society evolves so must the skills necessary to
ensure student success. Therefore, we are committed to continuous
improvement in order to ensure that our students will become
confident, lifelong learners and active participants in the American
republic, and citizens in a global society. Faculty, administration,
staff, parents, students, and the community-at-large all share the
responsibility for advancing our school's mission of believing in
education, honoring all people, and succeeding in life. We
communicate our vision, beliefs, and mission by publicizing them on
our website, posting them in key areas of our school, and including
them on school letterhead and stationary. Our vision, beliefs, and
mission serve as the foundation for programmatic, policy, and
procedural decisions within the school, while ensuring that
individual student learning and success remain our primary focus. We
evaluate and validate our vision, beliefs, and mission by reviewing
them regularly at faculty meetings and school improvement team
meetings to ensure that they are focused on the current needs of our
students and Transylvania County. Revisions to this structure of core
beliefs are made by a consensus vote at the school and community
level.
The
rules and regulations of Brevard High School are designed to support
these goals. The behaviors and choices of each person at BHS must
support the educational process, contribute to the health and safety
of all members of the school community, and support the dignity and
worth of every individual.
We
invite and encourage open communication between parents and faculty
members. Parents, if you are concerned about your child's progress
and would like a progress report, a parent/teacher conference, or a
phone call from your child's teacher, you may call the BHS guidance
office. If you would like to discuss an issue with an administrator,
please do not hesitate to contact any member of our administrative
team.
